The problems for this golf course originated from its base. Because the base was shale, shale chunks continued to come through and contaminate the bunkers. The high slopes of the bunkers caused sand to wash down when it rained, which exacerbated the problem.
To resolve this, we improved the drainage system and installed sodding at the bottom of the bunkers. The sod acts as a liner, keeping the shale base where it belongs, and the improved drainage makes it less likely that sand will wash away.
